The Culture of Affluence: Helping Kids Who Have It All
Culturally, there are conversations that are considered off limits: religion, politics, weight, age and wealth. Yet, here in Dallas, we have quite a bit of wealth. We are considered an "affluent culture." Financially, we know what this means, but how does that translate to our kids? How does affluence play a role in the way our kids are being raised to think, feel and behave? Current research tells us that affluent kids are experiencing epidemic rates of mental health issues. Parents are baffled and often say, "But they have it all?!" What is amiss here? Dr. Jameson will explore this often controversial topic through her own work with affluent families as well as the current research on this culture.

About Grant Halliburton Foundation
|
Grant Halliburton Foundation was established in 2006 in memory of a gifted young artist and musician who battled depression and bipolar disorder for several years before his suicide death at the age of 19. The Foundation that bears his name aims to help families and young people recognize the signs of mental illness through a variety of avenues including education, conferences, collaboration and encouragement.
Grant Halliburton Foundation works to promote awareness and understanding of teen and young adult mental health, to prevent suicide, and to strengthen the network of mental health resources for young people. The Foundation provides mental health education, training and support to more than 21,000 students, educators, parents and professionals annually.
As a member of We Are HERE: Friends of Grant Halliburton Foundation, you can join us to be HERE for the cause—to HELP increase awareness, EDUCATE our community, offer RESOURCES and provide ENCOURAGEMENT for families and friends affected by teen and young adult mental health issues, while supporting the mission, programs and events of the Grant Halliburton Foundation.
We appreciate your support in helping to give young people a better chance at leading happy, healthy lives.
